Give Thanks, Always and Without Pause

We are taught that the smallest measure of kindness requires us to give thanks. For example, when someone says “How are you?”, even in passing, we always respond with “Fine, thank you”. Even to mere strangers, we offer thanks. How much more to the one who created us?

ALWAYS GIVE THANKS

Just as our parents taught us to say ‘’thank you”, so our heavenly father has taught us to say thanks.

In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you – 1 Thess 5:18 (NKJV).

There are so many reasons why we should give thanks:

  • God is Great: “Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the Lord is the great God, And the great King above all gods”. – Psalm 95: 2-3
  • He has given us Grace: “I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus” – 1 Corinthians 1:4
  • His mercy endures forever: “Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever” – 1 Chronicles 16:34.
  • He deserves it: “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” – Colossians 3:17
He Himself Thanked

Even Our Lord Jesus Christ is a thankful person. Throughout his stay here on earth, he thanked God all the time.

  • When he wanted to Eat: And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them” – Luke 22:19A
  • When he wanted to bless others:  “And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down” – John 6:11
  • In faith, when praying, because he knew he had received answers: “And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.” – John 11:41b

Every time Jesus gave thanks, wonderful things followed. The dead were raised, few loaves fed thousands, salvation of souls followed. This tells us that there is a reward for always having a thankful spirit with God. Even if there was no reward, we ought to thank him because we are alive and well.

No matter our circumstances, we are breathing and have the privilege to call him Father. No amount of money can buy that and no level of righteousness merits us that.

May God help us, so that no matter the storm of life we are passing through, we will always be in a thankful spirit.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; – Philippians 4:6 (NKJV)

  1. Wow I see books inside of you. Best sellers. The doors are about to open for you.

    1. Amen, in Jesus name. I see crusades for you. Upper room experience is so small compared to the arenas where God will use you.
