Growing up, my Mom always used to tell me to “Speak Out!”. She never really explained what she meant, but she told me that all the time. Well, recently I finally heard someone explain it:
“If you have a word in your heart, no matter how powerful it is, if you do not speak it, it does not do as much as it should.”
Our mouths are weapons that are meant to discharge power in the form of spoken words. There is a reason that the tongue is said to be powerful:
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. (Proverbs 18:21)
If we are not speaking out words, then the tongue holds no power. This is also why we are admonished in this way:
I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matthew 12: 36 – 37)
Our tongues are meant to speak life, healing and positivity into our lives and the lives of those around us. This is what we do when we pray. So, when we have words that edify, declarations and prayers in our hearts, let us speak them out. It doesn’t have to be at the top of your lungs, and/or in a crowd. Even on your own, child of God, speak out that blessing.
