I have come to realize that we take life and its issues far more seriously than we are supposed to. No matter where you are, you need to learn to get over your worries. When we have a problem or a personal failing, we obsess over it so much, guilt ourselves into high blood pressure, and voluntarily sign up for sleepless nights that are spent worrying about life. Some instances include:
- Personal Failing: For example, when we are supposed to fast for three days and we are able to do two days. For being unable to complete the three days, we go about feeling as if we just committed murder
- Life Storms: When there is an issue with finances or yet to be manifested answers to our prayers, we think and rethink the issue, and worry about how to change things.
I used to be a culprit to it, but I have been practicing something that has brought me to a new place of peace. I have learned to Get Over It.
Learning to Get Over Guilt
If you want to get over your worries, you need to learn to forgive yourself. You should forgive yourself for your errors, and your past ways. Hanging onto guilt will weigh you down and there is nothing you can do, because no one can change the past. Just focus on God. In more ways than one, God has assured us over again, that he’s got our back and he will not let us fail.
- We know that he is a God who would rather destroy heaven and earth than see his promises us not to come pass (Matthew 24:35). Since he has promised not to destroy the earth again (Genesis 9:10-18), he will do everything to make sure that his words come to pass.
- We know that he thinks good for us – all the time (Jer 29:11). Without our meriting it, he has shown us much grace and loves us so much that he sent his only son to suffer and perish for us
- He even explicitly tells us to cast our cares on him, because he will not allow us to be shaken (Psalm 55:2). He also reminds us, in 1 Pet 5:7, to cast our burdens on him because he cares for us.
If the God who created the heaven and the earth and owns all things, has essentially said “Don’t worry – just pray and let me deal with the rest”, why should I worry? There is no amount of anxiety and sleepless nights that will resolve my issue. Just listen to God’s voice.

We often behave as if the end of the world will come if solutions to our problems do not come right away. We forget that there are people who are having a tougher time than we are. For every issue or problem in our lives, we can find a minimum of 10 people who would love to trade their issues with ours. If that prayer is not answered today, get over your worries, because the world will not end. Through grace and mercy, we will sleep and wake up tomorrow and live another day. Today is not the end of the world.
Always remember this: he who says a thing that can never be void and opens doors that can never be shut, is in your corner. The bible says faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains. We worry so much that we do not even have time to enjoy the blessings God gives us. While we worry, we often miss what he has sent our way. I don’t know what storm of life you are battling, but with God in control, it really is not that serious. So thank him for mercy and grace, deliver your problem into his hands, and get over your worries.
