This book review explores The Power of Thank You by Joyce Meyer. There are two things everyone can agree on a) having someone show you gratitude for something you have done makes you more likely to help the person again in the future, b) We do not hear ‘thank you’ as often as we should. The necessity of ‘thank you’ has always been framed around receiving thanks from someone. We hardly talk about what we get from saying ‘thanks’ to others. This book talks about all the benefits we receive when we have the spirit of gratitude.
The Power of Thank You: Discover the Joy of Gratitude
Other than making it easier for someone to do you a favor again, there are many benefits to being thankful and operating in gratitude. The Bible does tell us to be thankful in every season – no matter what (1st Thessalonians 5:18). It might be easier said than done, especially if being thankful has not been a habit. When our situation is rough, and circumstances are tough, it is difficult to be thankful. In tough times, we are, rightfully, filled with worries and thoughts about the situation, and remembering things to be thankful for is near impossible. My favorite section in the book starts on Page 106. This section reminds us that a way of waging spiritual warfare is being thankful in rough times. The enemy uses our rough times as an opportunity to shake our faith. However, being thankful in the moment reminds us that the God who saw us through the previous issues will see us through the current ones.
Recommend or Not
The book tries to cover a lot of reasons why we should be thankful, including the fact that it is God’s will. When I saw the title, I assumed it would just be practical and spiritual reasons why being thankful is powerful. It could have been more focused, and the chapters are lengthy. However, they are broken into segments. There are also her personal stories infused in some segments of the book, which is a great touch and personalizes many of the topics addressed. The book, I think it has a little bit of something for everyone and it was informative to read.
I recommend this book. Please read it, share with friends and do not forget to come back and share your thoughts with me.
