Do not fret because of those who are evil
or be envious of those who do wrong;
for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away (Psalm 37:1-2, NIV)
Why do the wicked prosper?
This is a question we always ask or think about. This is because it seems as if those who are unscrupulous, evil and wicked get all they want and prosper. It also seems as if, those who keep the rules, and trust in the Lord get the short end of the stick. Haven’t you had those moments when you want to tell God, “Father, I have done everything I am supposed to do and I am still struggling. However, so and so keeps breaking the rules and is cruel and she has advanced two levels ahead of me and gotten all she wanted. What is going on?”.
Feeling this way is completely human, and the appropriate party to talk to is God. The verses above completely answers that question and concern. It is not that the wicked progress and prosper over God’s children. As children of God, He will never allow our expectations to be cut short or withhold our reward from us. However, He gives the wicked time to repent from their ways, and when they do not, he gives them their just reward.
As a child of God, regardless of the challenges you face, there is assurance that there is better ahead of you. God is planning out your path, and divine peace. For the unjust or evil, there is no divine peace and no assurance of better. Their only hope is to – unless they abandon their evil ways and turn to God.
So, wherever you are and whatever you are going through, do not fret when it seems as if the evil is prospering. If they do not turn to God, they will wither and their end will be painful.
PONDER ON THIS:
- Has there ever been an evil character in the Bible who did not meet a bitter or sad end?
PRAYER:
- Lord, grant me the grace not to compare myself with the wicked
- Father, arm me with the grace, patience and faith to wait on your time for my breakthrough and miracles, in Jesus name
